Job Prerequisites:

Must be a strong swimmer. Must submit a swim video in YouTube format, within 10 days after your CHI interview, showing you are able to swim 200 yards (182.88 meters) without stopping and tread water with hands above head for 2 minutes and complete a feet-first dive for a brick retrieval. Please send it to Molly at chimolly@chinet.org. Your employer will review and approve your placement based on your video. You will complete 20 hours of training to receive your Ellis & Associates Lifeguard license. The employer will pay for this certification.

Job Description :

You must arrive in Waterloo on May 26. Your Orientation/start date is May 28.

Lost Island lifeguards help build the family-friendly environment needed for an unforgettable Guest experience. Through active Guest engagement, you have the privilege of creating a safe, fun environment for everyone who visits the park by learning to anticipate, recognize, and manage aquatic emergencies. Lifeguards receive extensive training in first aid, water rescues, and crisis management. All of these are great life skills you will take with you into the future.

Need to be outgoing, friendly, approachable, and helpful. As a lifeguard, you will have to ensure a safe and healthy environment for the swimmers; speaking up if guests are running or playing too rough You have to be able to recognize and react properly in emergency situations. You will be working outside in all types of weather – hot sun, cooler days, light rain, etc. Standing and sitting in the hot sun for long periods of time. You will be required to get in the water daily.

Must be dependable, hard-working, friendly, and a very trustworthy and honest individual. Positions require attention to detail, punctuality, and a great service attitude & team spirit. Flexible to help in other positions as requested. Additional tasks as requested by management. You will be working all weekends (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), all holidays, and evening shifts. You may not work the same shifts as your friends. Nor will you have the same days off as your friends. No job, or hours at a job, can be 100% guaranteed. Regardless of what your work contract states, there is always a possibility that you will work more or fewer hours. Some days will be slower than others.

You will pay approx. 3 weeks in advance of arriving a total of $335.00 USD. This covers your $200 housing security deposit and the administrative fee of $135.00. The administration fee covers transportation from the Waterloo Airport or Waterloo bus station to your housing, transportation to the SSA office to complete your application, and a meal for you on the day you arrive; as well as 2 extra work shirts.

A bi-weekly transportation fee of $35.00 (to and from work) will be deducted from your payroll bi-weekly.
