Position Overview: Join the Ghirardelli team in Santa Monica! This role is perfect for individuals with a friendly, positive attitude, who love providing excellent customer service and working in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment. As part of our team, you’ll engage with customers, prepare delicious treats, and ensure the store remains clean and inviting. This position is physically demanding and requires flexibility, reliability, and a commitment to customer satisfaction.
Primary Responsibilities
General Duties (All Roles):
Deliver friendly, approachable, and courteous customer service to all guests.
- Be flexible and willing to perform all duties as assigned, including: Standing for up to 8 hours.
- Scooping ice cream, preparing food and drinks, and greeting customers.
- Handling cash, assisting with various cleaning tasks, taking out the trash multiple times daily, and mopping.
- Stocking merchandise and pre-packing chocolates.
- Lifting and moving cases weighing 10-30 lbs (4-13 kg) and assisting with unloading trucks three times a week.
- Maintain sanitary and clean workstations at all times. This includes regular washing and disinfecting of counters and surfaces.
- Wear a mask while on shift and wash hands frequently, especially when transitioning between stations.
Role-Specific Duties:
Chocolatier-Stocker: Pre-pack chocolates, stock merchandise, perform cleaning tasks, and lift and unload heavy cases (10-35 lbs/4-15 kg for females, 50-75 lbs/22-34 kg for males).
Retail Sales/Greeter: Engage customers, provide information about chocolate merchandise, and use excellent communication and customer service skills.
Fountain/Bussers: Prepare ice cream sundaes, coffee drinks, clean tables, take out trash, and mop floors.
Cashiers: Use strong customer service skills to assist guests and handle American currency.
Schedule and Work Expectations Expect shifts to be primarily on weekends (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), holidays, and evenings, with closing shifts making up about 80% of scheduled hours. Anticipate working 4-5 days per week, 6-8 hours per day, including a half-hour unpaid lunch break.
Maintain a flexible schedule and be prepared for variable hours. Some days may be busier than others, so shifts and hours may fluctuate.

Flexibility & Scheduling Independence: Able to work independently of friends’ schedules; shifts and days off may not align with others.
Basic Math Skills: Familiarity with handling U.S. currency is essential (study provided American Currency Guide before arrival).
