Position: Retail Associate
Position Available: 2 positions
Hourly wage: $15.00 per hour
Overtime: $22.50 – Overtime may be offered but NOT GUARANTEED
Estimated hours per week: 32 hours per week
Job Prerequisites:
Participants are required to take a 30 minute unpaid meal break for shifts exceeding 5 hours. In addition, participants are required to take a paid 10 minute rest break. All breaks require participants to clock in and clock out according to Food Lion policy. In addition, all times for breaks/lunches are determined by the Manager on duty.
MUST BE ABLE TO RIDE A BIKE, AS THIS WILL BE YOUR PRIMARY FORM OF TRANSPORTATION. Please note there is NO public transportation in this area.
May need to lift anywhere from 10 lbs – 70 lbs. Participants will need to walk and stand for long periods of time and may be required to wear a wireless communicator.
Ability to read, write (in English) and perform basic math functions, communicate with the customers, meet production standards established by Food Lion. Ability to reach, bend, stoop, and lift as noted above.
Must be friendly and respectful towards supervisors (male and female), coworkers, customers, and other program participants.
Job Description :
Supermarket Associate
All participants are hired in as Supermarket Associate Positions. Specific position in the supermarket will be determined during Orientation with Store Manager. Positions will be mutually agreed upon for best fit for participant. Once a position has been assigned, participants will be expected to work in their assigned department for the duration of their program. Positions and role requirements are not gender specific.
All positions will be expected to assist in maintaining store cleanliness and thus may be required to use cleaning chemicals. This may include cleaning bathrooms, mopping floors, and other general sanitary needs. Participants should be prepared to work outside in all weather conditions.
Participants may be assigned one of the positions below:
- Sales Associate: Customer checkout at the cash register, scan all items, bag items, keep cash register area clean and tidy, gather carts and remove trash from carts, must be familiar with American currency, must be able to lift 10 lbs.
- Produce Associate: Help restock and label fresh produce items, work in coolers for extended periods of time, wash produce items, must be able to lift up to 60 lbs.
- Deli Bakery Associate: Work with bulk meat and cheese utilizing a slicer, make sandwiches, subs, cakes, parfaits and fry chicken, sell deli products, package meat and products, help clean deli area. Will be working in coolers and freezers, must be able to lift 60 lbs.
- Meat and Seafood Associate: Wrap, weigh, and stock fresh meat cases with seafood and meat (including pork). Operate, clean, and maintain wrapping stations and scales. Ensure proper rotation of product, stock lunchmeat and freezer cases and empty cartons in a grocery stock cart. Tear cartons down and place them on the top shelf of the cart. Will be working in freezers and coolers for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift 60lbs.
- Grocery Associate: Rotate product in accordance with Food Lion/Hannaford current stocking and conditioning policy, maintain shelf allocations by stocking from tag to tag. Reach, bend, stoop and lift up to 70 lbs. as needed to stock product for majority of shift, push or pull product up to 2000 lbs. using a pallet jack. May work in coolers and freezers for extended periods of time, will handle canned meat and dairy products. Clean bathrooms and floors using a machine and/or mopping bucket. This is a physically demanding position.
- Quality Assurance Associate: Provide our customers with a clean, safe, inviting place to shop by maintaining standards in accordance with the standard practice manual. Minimize shrink through proper utilization of standard practice. Courteous and helpful to other associates, sweep and clean floors, weekly cleaning of produce, market, deli departments, clean and organize the store mop room. Must be able to lift 60 lbs and push and pull up to 75 lbs on occasion.
All positions require standing for the entirety of the shift. NO SEATED POSITIONS AVAILABLE. Participants may be working both inside and outside of the store.
All Associates must provide quality customer service to customers, engage and interact with customers to create a positive shopping experience. Must understand and adhere to Food Safety guidelines and procedures, adhere to all company guidelines, policies and procedures. Must meet productivity standards established by Food Lion/Hannaford.
