Job Description:
As a server, participants will be taking customer orders, serving food and beverages, preparing itemized checks, and sometimes accepting payment. Servers may perform additional duties, which may include escorting guests to tables, serving customers seated at counters, setting up and clearing tables, and operating a computer-based system for making orders and processing payment.
Servers (also known as wait staff) must be professional, polite, and reliable. They must speak excellent English to be able to understand and converse with the customers and they must be able to learn and describe food proficiently. Wait Staff also need to be familiar with the menu, with how the food is prepared, what it tastes like and if special requests are allowed. They need to be informed about specials and special events.
Participants will be using cleaning chemicals. Participants may be handling pork products. Participants will earn tips in this position; employers will apply tip credit to equal an hour wage of $7.25 (Federal Minimum wage) if applicable.
Tips are pooled with other employees working on the same shift. Last year, employees who performed to the expectations of this position earned an average of ~$100 per day in tips above the hourly wage of $2.13. Tips can vary from day to day based on business volume. Managers will provide guidelines to staff during training.
