Position: Ice Cream Seller
Position Available: 3 Positions
Hourly wage: $13.00 + tips per hour
Estimated hours per week: Average 32 – 40 hours per week
Job Prerequisite:
- Must be highly energetic, enthusiastic, and passionate about giving excellent customer service
- Accurately process credit card transactions
- Must be able to work flexible shifts, which often includes evenings, weekends, and holidays, especially during the busy summer season in Virginia Beach
- Must be physically capable of standing for entire shifts (up to 8 hours) and lifting/moving up to 25–40 pounds (e.g., ice cream tubs or boxes of supplies)
- Must be committed to maintaining the highest level of cleanliness, following all food safety and sanitation guidelines .
- Must be a reliable team player with excellent communication skills.
- Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and capable of scooping hard ice cream repeatedly.
Job Description :
Core Responsibilities (All Roles)
- Prepare and serve ordered ice cream .
- Operate the cash register and handle money, credit cards, and gift cards .
- Wipe down counters and tables properly throughout the day .
- Cleaning is a major task, including washing dishes, picking up papers, emptying garbage, and maintaining an overall clean shop .
- Complete daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning checklists as delegated by management .
- Maintain store stock levels as indicated by checklists and management .
- Must be flexible and willing to work as a scooper, caterer, or flavor coach based on business needs .
- Must be willing to work in one of the other San Francisco scoop shops .
- Employees must gain knowledge of all ice cream flavors, their ingredients, and the history/mission of Ben & Jerry’s .
- Flexible to help in other positions as requested .
- Perform additional tasks as requested by management .
Specific Roles
- Scooper:
- Ensure the shop maintains a clean and healthy environment for customers and staff .
- Responsible for creating all menu items .
- Provide freshly baked waffle cones to the stores .
- Ensure customer satisfaction by always being friendly, offering timely service, and using proper product handling techniques .
- Always follow food safety procedures, including timely wipe-downs and water changes for scoops .
- Flavor Coach:
- Maintain a clean and stocked customer area .
- Manage the customer line .
- Assist guests by teaching them about flavors and their ingredients .
- Teach guests about menu items .
- Create a fun line atmosphere by asking trivia questions and entertaining those waiting .
- Respond to customer inquiries .
- Catering:
- Participate in offsite scooping jobs .
- This requires meeting at a location in San Francisco or driving with staff to an offsite location .
- Set up equipment to deliver a quality experience for guests .
Schedule & Requirements
- Availability:
- You will be working all weekends (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) .
- You will be working all holidays and evening shifts .
- Stores can close at 11 pm or 12 am, meaning you may have shifts working until closing .
- You will be walking home very late at night in San Francisco .
- Work Hours (Variable):
- The employer will try to give everyone approximately 40 hours a week, but this is not guaranteed every week .
- Hours may range closer to 32 or over 40 hours, depending on business needs .
- If you are not available to work the shifts provided, you will lose those hours, and additional shifts will not be provided .
- No job or hours at a job can be 100% guaranteed .
- There is always a possibility you will work more or fewer hours than contracted .
- Scheduling Rules:
- You may not work the same shifts as your friends .
- You will not have the same days off as your friends .
- Schedules are created a month in advance .
- Requests for time off after the schedule is complete require the staff member to find coverage with management approval .
- Physical & Skill Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs (13.6 kg) .
- You will be on your feet for your entire shift .
- Must be familiar with American currency and basic math skills .
- Must be dependable, hard-working, friendly, trustworthy, and honest .
- Positions require attention to detail, punctuality, a great service attitude, and team spirit .
- Must have a strong work ethic, a great attitude, and like working with people .
English Required skills: Upper Intermediate (A, B+, B, C+ Only)
