Position Available:   2 Positions

Hourly wage:  $17.95 per hour

Estimated hours per day: 32 Hours Effort & Attendance

Overtime: Overtime is not guaranteed and only authorized on an as-needed basis. Each store operates separate payrolls, and hours at different locations cannot be combined to qualify for overtime pay

Job Prerequisites:

Must have a lively, friendly, and professional demeanor with the ability to adapt to changing tasks and customer needs.

Advanced English proficiency required to communicate effectively with customers, coworkers, and supervisors.

Able to lift up to 15 kilograms (33 lbs), climb ladders, bend, and stand or walk for long hours each shift.

Must not have allergies to dust, cleaning chemicals, or vacuuming, as cleaning and restocking tasks are required daily.

Comfortable performing repetitive movements such as folding, labeling, and organizing merchandise.

Must have basic math skills to handle cash, process payments, and calculate change accurately.

Responsible for arranging and maintaining personal housing for the duration of the program.

Willing to engage in cleaning, organizing, and rubbish removal tasks as assigned.

Must demonstrate patience, attention to detail, and teamwork while maintaining a professional attitude.

Job Descriptions:

Abe’s Gifts specializes in providing dedicated service to school groups during their educational visits to the U.S. capital, offering 30-minute appointments for an enriching and memorable shopping experience. Participants in this role help maintain the smooth operation of the store and ensure visitors receive friendly, professional service in a fastpaced, high-traffic environment. This position requires energy, patience, and close attention to detail. Participants will handle customer service, stocking, cleaning, and merchandising duties while supporting the team and representing CHI and the employer with professionalism.

Customer Engagement Warmly welcome and assist all visitors, with a special focus on school groups, teachers, and families. Provide courteous and attentive service to ensure a positive shopping experience. Guide visitors to product areas, explain prices, and suggest suitable items. Maintain awareness to prevent theft and ensure a safe, respectful environment for all guests. Stay observant, patient, and calm even during busy, high-volume periods.

Gift Shop Operations Operate the cash register (POS system) and handle payments accurately (cash and credit). Restock and organize merchandise to maintain attractive, full displays. Steam, fold, label, and prepare apparel and souvenir items for sale. Lift and unpack heavy boxes (up to 22 kg / 50 lbs) and climb ladders safely when restocking shelves

Maintain store cleanliness — dusting, vacuuming, changing trash, cleaning shelves, and restrooms. Monitor floor organization and re-fold or re-set displays as customers handle items throughout the day. Ensure the store remains neat and welcoming at all times.

Administrative & Event Support Assist with daily drawer counts, reconcile sales receipts, and complete end-of-day paperwork. Help with event setup and takedown, including school group arrivals and special promotions. Communicate clearly with supervisors to resolve issues and support store operations

Abe’s Gifts operates in busy tourist areas. The work involves standing and moving for 8+ hours each shift, frequent bending, lifting, and repetitive tasks. The store can become crowded during spring school trips and holidays, requiring patience, focus, and strong communication skills.
