Position: Lifeguard
Position Available: 10 Positions
Hourly wage: $15 per hour
Estimated hours per week: Average of 45 hours per week. Modified pool schedule during first 2-3 weeks due to local school schedule.
Job Prerequisites:
Students should be flexible and open to be placed in either Maryland or Virginia. Their placement will be determined upon arrival based on the staffing needs at the time.
The lifeguard training will be done upon arrival in the United States but the students will need to submit videos showing that they can complete the following prerequisites:
- swim at least 100 yards without stopping using freestyle and breaststroke
- retrieve a 10-pound-brick from a minimum depth of at least 8 feet
- tread water for 1 minute without using arms using legs only.
The lifeguard is responsible for constant, dedicated surveillance and monitoring of pools to prevent accidents. You will need to rescue swimmers in danger, test the chlorine levels, safely handle pool chemicals, clean the pool and pool area (including bathroom), and administer CPR/first aid as needed.
Confident English speaking skills are required for interacting with swimmers and pool patrons.
You must pass Lifeguard Certification Training or Swim Test in your home country. You are also required to pass a pool operator exam prior to or upon arrival. You will be tested regularly (and without notice) on lifesaving, CPR, and First Aid throughout the summer.
You may not sleep or rest your eyes on duty. You may not use a cell phone on duty. You must be able to work outside in all weather conditions, will be exposed to heat, sun, and chlorine daily

- Standing/sitting in and out of water for long periods of time.
- Recognize and respond effectively in emergencies.
- Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules, and regulations.
- Inspect facility as required and report any unsafe conditions or equipment.
- Maintaining skills at a rescue-ready level at all times.
- Remain alert and attentive at all times.
- Participate in regular in-service training sessions.
- Maintain professional lifeguarding practices at all times.
- Keep the facilities and property clean and comfortable for guests.
- Complete additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
English Required skills: Advanced (A, B+, B) only
