Position: • Resort Worker

 Employer is looking for students who will be happy working at Delaware North located in the beautiful but isolated Shenandoah National Park as a Resort Worker. Students must be prepared to perform duties at all mentioned below departments.

  • Prep Cook

  • Retail Cashier/Server/Food Service Cashier

 Position Available: 

Hourly wage: Starting at $12.15 per hour

Overtime details: OT only after 40 hours of work in a workweek, not guaranteed. OT will be paid at 1.5 x hourly rate)

Average of Hours: Estimated Average Hours per Week: 32. (After orientation, training & achievement of satisfactory performance)

Job Description :

  • Surrounded by the astonishing beauty of the Blue Ridge Mountains Delaware North Parks and Resorts at Shenandoah is for nature lovers, however, please do not expect nightlife, big shopping, or big city atmosphere. Shenandoah National Park’s rough-hewn beauty is reflected and refined in its in-park hotel options, just 75 miles west of Washington, D.C. outside the town of Luray. Students work at various locations inside Shenandoah including but not limited to Skyland, Big Meadows and Loft Mountain.
  • Students should be flexible and should be prepared to work in a variety of positions. However, upon arrival the employer will assign you to a certain position/role and no changes will be permitted thereafter

Housekeeper

  • Thoroughly cleans areas, rooms, and restrooms according to department procedures.
  • Empties wastebaskets and transports trash and waste to disposal area.
  • Replenishes supplies per housekeeping procedures.
  • Conducts walk-arounds of assigned areas to ensure the facility meets housekeeping standards.
  • Interacts on occasion with guests while cleaning guest and meeting rooms. Assists guest as needed.
  • Reports maintenance repair problems to Supervisor.
  • Ensures all lost and found items are turned in and logged on a daily basis.
  • Ensures sanitation guidelines are maintained.
  • Ensures all linen rooms and work areas are neat, clean and organized.
  • Limited to no experience required; previous commercial cleaning and/or guest service experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of various cleaning utensils, dryers, vacuum cleaners, tools and fixtures.
  • Ability to work quickly under pressure.
  • Ability to follow direction and instructions.
  • Ability to make simple addition and subtraction calculations.
  • Frequent walking and standing for entire length of shift.
  • Frequent bending, climbing of stairs stooping, reaching, kneeling, and carrying.
  • Use of hands to operate cleaning equipment and complete scrubbing/washing duties.
  • Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to inspect cleanliness of rooms and surfaces.
  • Working conditions include being regularly exposed to fumes and cleaning chemicals, occasionally works in outside weather conditions, occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, and noise level may be moderate to loud.

Dishwasher

  • Washes dishes, glassware, pots, pans, flatware and kitchen items, using dishwashers or by hand.
  • Places clean dishes, utensils, and cooking equipment in storage areas.
  • Cleans work area including equipment, floors, walls and cooking area.
  • Ensures that all levels for sanitizer on dish machine and pot sinks are at specific requirement for health standards.
  • Keeps all kitchen wares storage areas clean and orderly.
  • Removes trash from dishroom and transports to dumpster. Cleans and sanitizes garbage cans
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Ability to understand and follow direction. • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to stand and walk for entire length of shift.
  • Ability to lift and carry supplies and equipment up to 60 pounds and place items on high and low shelves in storerooms and freezers.
  • Frequent reaching, twisting at the waist, bending, and squatting
  • Pushing and pulling occasionally, to move equipment, mops and brooms
  • Will be in contact with chemical cleaning agents.
  • Hazards include, but are not limited to, cuts from broken glass, metal cans, scalds and burns, slipping and tripping.
  • Frequently immerses hands in water.
  • Works frequently in a hot and damp environment.

Cook

  • Prepares food to specifications before and during unit operations.
  • Properly measures and portions all food items. Complies with all portion sizes, quality standards, department rules, policies and procedures.
  • Utilizes kitchen equipment to prepare food items such as: knives, slicers, whips, pots, pans, warmers, steamers, grills, ovens, etc.
  • Ensures proper food temperatures are maintained and food is stored correctly.
  • Ensures freshness and quality of all menu items and packages all products to proper specifications.
  • Performs opening, closing and side work duties as instructed and according proper guidelines.
  • Keeps workstation, coolers and equipment clean, organized, sanitized, and sufficiently stocked.
  • Follows and upholds all health codes and sanitation regulations.
  • Uses waste control guidelines and records all waste on spoilage sheet.
  • Completes end of day inventory and other opening/closing duties in accordance with company checklists and procedures.
  • Performs other duties assigned.
  • At least 6 months previous experience in back-of-the-house foodservice position required.
  • Participation in a culinary program is preferred.
  • Ability to read and comprehend prep sheets and recipes.
  • Basic math skills; ability to understand, calculate and follow recipe measurements and proportions.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays as needed.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to chop, mix, blend, whip etc. a variety of foods and liquids. •

 Ability to lift and carry large pans from ovens or freezers, weighing up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to handle or operate dangerous kitchen equipment.
  • Standing and walking for entire length of shift.
  • Frequently required to reach up to 6-7 feet, twist at waist, bending and squatting
  • Pushing and pulling occasionally, to move equipment, mops and brooms.

Food Service Cashier

As a Foodservice Cashier you should display a positive attitude with guests and co-workers while also being able to accurately ring up merchandise and product in an efficient manner.Greets and acknowledges guests, answers their questions and assists them whenever possible.

  • Greets guests approaching stand, provides details to guests on items for sale and uses suggestive selling techniques.
  • Serves food and beverage items in correct proportions, following proper sanitation guidelines.
  • Serves alcoholic beverages responsibly, requests identification, and adheres to all alcohol service policies and procedures.
  • Participates in set-up, opening & closing procedures, arranges inventory, notifies supervisor of any inventory deficiency or shortages.
  • Performs clean-up duties in the stand to maintain the quality appearance of the work area, including cleaning equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in addition to cashier duties (if applicable).
  • Properly records all transactions via the point of sale system and informs guests of the amounts owed.
  • Collects the proper money for food and beverage items; processes credit cards or determines correct change for guests.
  • Accounts for all transactions; maintains accurate cash count and balance banks at end of shift.
  • Ability to provide excellent guest service.
  • Basic math skills; ability to accurately account for cash and inventory.

Busser

  • Check in with management upon arrival for daily duties and station assignments.
  • Attend pre-shift briefing, taking note of relevant information including service, food and beverage, and guest notes. • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the dining room including all equipment, utensils, tables, chairs, service stations, floors, and windows.
  • Remove dirty dishes, silverware, and empty glasses from guest tables between courses and after guests depart. Return dirty dishes, silverware, glassware and linen to dish washing area, sorting appropriately and placing them in the assigned area for proper disposition.
  • Reset tables once guests leave according to floor plan or instructions from management.
  • Remove and empty trash as needed.
  • Assist in counting china, glass, silver and linen.
  • Experience or training as a Runner or Busser with a similar style of dining, capacity, and volume is preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays in addition to normal business hours, as needed.
  • Good English language skills.
  • Constant standing, walking, bending, reaching, and repetitive motions.
  • Ability to maneuver between tables and around corners.
  • Ability to lift, balance and move large food trays, weighing up to 35 pounds, for set-up, service, and clean-up.

Retail Cashier

As a Retail Cashier, you’ll be responsible for providing excellent guest service and managing all transactions accurately and efficiency.

  • Greets and acknowledges guests, answers their questions and assists them whenever possible.
  • Processes sale with appropriate point of sale system, accepts payment, counts change and bags merchandise.
  • Maintains records related to sales.
  • Routinely stocks merchandise and faces items on shelves.
  • Verifies amount of bank at beginning and the end of each shift.
  • Maintains a clean and organized store or stand.
  • Maintains orderly back-stock and knows where goods are to be found.
  • Completes all related close-out paperwork.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Previous experience in retail or customer service environment preferred.
  • Previous experience with Point of Sale software preferred.
  • Good communication skills; ability to communicate with guests and co-workers.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Basic math skills; ability to accurately handle money and count change.
  • Capable of following job guidelines and supervisors’ instructions.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.

Server

As a Server, you will be the face of our restaurant and play a critical role in providing excellent service to our guests. In addition to the base rate of pay, this is a tipped position. During peak season, it isn’t unusual to receive an extra $10-20/hour in estimated tips.

  • Greets guests, provides menus, clearly communicates restaurant specials, answers questions about menu items, collects food and beverage orders, serves items ordered, and attends to guests need throughout their visit.
  • Accurately enters orders into point-of-sale system so that kitchen staff can prepare food and bar staff can prepare drinks, as needed.
  • Serves alcohol beverages responsibly, requests identification, and adheres to all alcohol service policies and procedures.
  • Prepares and delivers check to guests at table and accepts and processes payment.
  • Collaborate with other restaurant servers and kitchen and bar staff.
  • Performs opening, closing, cleaning, and side work duties, as assigned.
  • Ensures all equipment and workspaces are clean, sanitized, organized, and working properly.
  • Experience in cash handling and credit card processing required.
  • At least one year’s experience as a server in a high-volume environment preferred.
  • Previous experience with a point-of-sale system in service or hospitality environment preferred.
